Ike Dike Closer to Starting - - - for Galveston

Image
This is a pretty big deal - Governor Abbott just signed the approval to spend $550 million for the start of the Ike Dike - this is the barriers and surge gates to protect Galveston (not us). This project will cost a total of $34 billion and the money flows through a Gulf Coast Protection District (once again - does not include us).  Part of what they are trying to do is the surge gates to protect Houston from a catastrophic storm.  Those gates will look like this -  So why should we care?  Because they are serious about saving the coast and there are only 336 miles of Texas Coastline. Obviously they are way far behind our little project and not everyone agrees with some of what they want to do - but at least they are working on getting some help for our coast.  More to come on the Texas Gulf Coast!

Hurry up and wait

Image
We used to always say this in the military - hurry up and wait - and that appears to be the case with the Request for Proposal (RFP) from the Government Land Office (GLO).  I reached out to GLO this morning and received an immediate response.  They do have everything they need from the county and from the contractor.  It is all on GLO to write the RFP and then it has to go to the Comptrollers Office because the RFP is for over $5 million.  And that takes a month. So we are looking at end of summer now.  And at least two months to award the contract.  So we may start construction this year - - and I am still hopeful we will.  Damn. For now we wait.
