Trip to the cut - extra low tide 1/1/21

My kids got me a drone for Christmas to chart the progress of beach restoration.  


We had an unusually low tide this morning and I took the drone down to stubby and flew it out to the cut.  Amazing.

New RFP RELEASED!

The new RFP for the breakwater and jetty project has been released and it now includes dredging of the mouth of the San Bernard.   Not surprising this is a much more comprehensive bid package (278 pages long) with a lot more detail coming from the Army Corps of Engineers. The bid package can be found here Here is the summary -  So now we are down to 4 breakwaters for the $25-$100 million dollar project - we started at 6 - but they have left open the option for a 5th if budget allows.  They are not as prescriptive for the exact construction giving some leeway for contractors.  The process - 30 days of advertising, then 4-6 weeks of qualifying and hopefully awarded before end of year. Offers are due October 7th - if you look at this bid package, that is aggressive - but we need aggressive right now.  I will follow and see if they have some q&a released.

Contract AWARDED!

Further update on the Sargent Beach Jetty and Breakwater project -

 From Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum -  Please keep in mind that this office doesn't sit on information that could be put out on timelines regarding all the projects coming to Sargent. We pass along information and/or updates as soon as we receive them. Furthermore, there isn't anything related to any of these projects sitting on my desk that could cause any delays. I turn around anything needed from this office or the county immediately. Unfortunately, we don't have any control how long things sit on a desk at agencies this office doesn't have any control over. All I can do is follow up regularly and ask if anything is needed from me. Having said that, I got an update on the breakwater project and a new timeline.
