Sargent Beach Jetty and Breakwater update - new pic of the San Bernard.
UPDATE:
The mouth of the San Bernard is now open! The contractor posted this picture yesterday. This is awesome. The picture below is from their November 12 updated. HUGE PROGRESS. Thanks Ernest Lawson for providing the info!
San Bernard picture as of November 12, 2021
With the hectic storm season last year and the one direct hit this year we have done and are doing additional survey out at the cut.(survey team is out there this week and now complete). We have found as much as 300 ft of shoreline retreat down there. With that in mind we are adjusting the final plans for the structures.
Permit is on schedule. VERY pleased with progress. We believe we are still on target for 1st quarter of 2022 for bid and contracting. Remember there is a GLO qualifications process for the contractors bidding. So I believe it will take every bit of the first quarter to get the project bid and under contract and started. (NOTE: this means not starting until March or April)
And yes, the “Historic Stretch” (as I have coined the term) is out on public notice for comment. This is the previously nourished/engineered area of Sargent beach. We are getting a new authorization for the expired permit and are staying in the previous template. Hope to nourish that stretch with the breakwater nourishment phase.
What that last part means is only 1 mile up from the bridge towards the east and 1 mile west of the bridge. This was the beach nourishment that was previously done. They permit expired so they have to get a new permit - they are still trying to get both projects to align.
Outstanding! Thanks for the information.
ReplyDeleteHas there been any update, or change in the beach frontage since this breakthrough?
ReplyDeleteNot really yet but it does appear to be starting to impact the beach around the cut. I see more sand and softer sand up there
